Position Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D/MD level scientist with broad knowledge and research experience in disease of hepatocellular carcinoma or/and gastric cancer to lead a group at the new AstraZeneca R&&D site in Shanghai, the Innovation Center China (ICC). The successful candidate will be able to independently guide, design and execute experiments to enhance the disease knowledge, and to identify and validate new targets using both pre-clinical models and clinical samples, and also to provide strategy for drug discovery and early clinical development.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, implement and organize molecular characterization of hepatocellular carcinoma and gastric cancer to provide baseline information
  • Lead target selection, validation and potential biomarker identification
  • Understand organ dysfunction and the impact on therapies
  • Identify and establish models relevant to the diseases
  • Monitor new therapies and emerging drug candidates
  • Develop disease expertise, understand major unmet needs, and major disease segment
  • Provide scientific leadership in future direction and strategy in the relevant disease from drug discovery and development perspective
  • Familiar with current knowledge of agents and standard of cares used in the diseases
  • Familiar with drug discovery and development
  • Perform as an effective leader who supervises and coaches research scientists
  • Effectively and collaboratively work with other functional and project teams
  • Initiate and manage scientific collaborations in support of disease strategy
  • Engage with the KOLs in the relevant fields
Minimum Requirements:
  • Ph.D and MD or Ph.D with Medial background/training in biological science with a minimum of 5-8 years experience with proven track record in hepatocellular cancer or gastric cancer
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a team in a project team-oriented environment are essential
  • A strong scientific curiosity and a "can-do" attitude are required to be successful for this position
Preferred Background:
  • HBV research experience
  • In vivo Cancer biology, Pharmacology
  • Extensive cell biology and signal transduction research experience
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience
